Within the healthcare industry, there’s a growing body of researched and documented examples of facilities that have made a difference in the quality of care and financial performance of the organization.

This PATIENT/VISITOR LIVING SPACE is an example of how design can make a difference.
Designed as a “destination place” for patients and visitors to go while visiting or receiving care on the in-patient floor, the living space allows visitors a more comfortable space than the patient room.
Zones meet various needs for patients and visitors:
* Stimulation/repose
Patients and visitors select the level of activity that feels best to them. They may join others in conversation or watching television, or they may relax in a semi-private quiet area.
* Circulation
Paths for walking or wheeling encourage visitors and patients to get up and circulate. Research shows that this exercise is positive stimulus for the brain.
* Refreshment
People gather at tables and chairs of varied height in a setting that feels more like a kitchen or café than a hospital waiting area. Refreshments are self-serve, so users don’t have to ask hospital staff for help.
