Steelcase Shares Multifaceted Product Solutions at NEOCON 2003

“The products we are showing at NeoCon this year reveal the innovation and flexibility Steelcase provides office environments, enabling them to easily adapt and transform in today’s evolving workplaces,” said Frank Merlotti, president of Steelcase North America. “Steelcase’s goal remains steadfast. We aim to continually support the changing tasks and roles people face each day by developing user-centered solutions that improve the effectiveness, productivity, health and comfort of people at work.”

Pathways® Technology Wall and Ports
Created to change with rapidly evolving technology and shifting organizational needs, Pathways Technology Wall supports individual and team needs for advanced technology management and offers unusually flexible application capabilities. At the same time, the panel has been designed to meet the most demanding aesthetic requirements. Technology Wall’s capabilities include extensive cable capacity and routing options, four different ways users can access power and data from almost anywhere on the panel, and the ability to interface with the Pathways Architectural Power system for total workspace utility flexibility. The product is easily adaptable, quick to install, and uniquely designed to allow advanced features to be specified only where they are needed. The ability to add or change features over time allows Technology Wall to keep pace with organizations’ evolving needs, from meeting new space planning requirements to going wireless. In addition, Pathways Technology Wall can accommodate many different Steelcase furniture component options, including integrating Pathways Post and Beam to create innovative space designs that meet users’ needs to balance privacy and collaboration.

Pathways Ports are interchangeable modules within the Pathways Technology Wall that seamlessly integrate tools and technology into the panel in a new way. Ports take advantage of the depth of the panel to get work tools off the desktop, providing users with additional worksurface space. Two Ports are being introduced at NeoCon. The Power and Communication Port provides users easy and elegant technology access. The Personal Organizer Port provides hidden storage for frequently used office supplies.

Universal Storage
Based on several years of research uncovering how users access, manage, use and store information and objects, Universal Storage is a comprehensive, freestanding storage platform that supports greater versatility in planning and applying storage solutions. The platform was designed to grow and change with user needs, providing a wide variety of products and interior configurations for storage solutions that accommodate workers’ different information management needs and approaches.

Universal Storage provides designers aesthetic choices that include multiple front styles in steel or wood, new pull options, and new glass options including hinged doors, skylight tops, and shelves. The removable tops and bases support further customization of case height. Many cases are stackable and some components can also rotate 180 degrees to enable shared access. Intended to integrate with Steelcase’s broad offering of panel based and freestanding systems, the Universal Storage portfolio includes full front towers, open side towers, vertical drawer towers, workstation verticals, lockers, pedestals, lateral files, combination cabinets, storage/wardrobe cabinets, and bookcases.

To support environmental responsibility, product components are made from 25-30% recycled content and can be broken down and recycled after use.

Wood Furniture
Illustrating superb craftsmanship with timeless, understated design, Steelcase is displaying a custom Stow Davis® office based on the new Landmark product platform. The platform offers thirteen standard finishes on oak, maple, walnut and cherry for a wide variety of elements including desks, credenzas and storage pieces that can be easily configured and adapted to meet the needs of today’s evolving work cultures. Additionally, Stow Davis specializes in custom-tailored solutions to help create high performance workspaces. The Landmark product portfolio is designed to deliver high quality at a lower price point.

Convene™, Impact™ and Unison™ are also being shown - all of which were developed to address the functions of multiple work environments.

  • Convene is a complete portfolio of meeting space products that includes a wide variety of conference tables, credenzas, lecterns, hospitality and media carts, and wallboards, designed with options to complement contemporary, traditional and transitional office décor.

  • Impact is a sophisticated line of casegoods components consisting of flexible work surfaces, build-up wall units and various pedestal options. Patented slip-fit technology gives designers the ability to fine-tune the aesthetics and scale of Impact environments. Individual pieces of the product line can be presented in different combinations to give users workspaces that are tailored to their individual needs.

  • Unison is an ultra-flexible furniture system created to integrate with Pathways products. It consists of a series of furniture components, including tables, pedestals, overhead storage and towers, and worksurfaces that attach to wall or panel systems, that can be used in multiple environments from open plans to private offices.

Concept Furniture
Steelcase is also presenting several new product concepts at NeoCon that look to the future of workplace product design. The products showcased today demonstrate Steelcase’s commitment to inspiring and effective product design.

“Steelcase continually invests in the research and development of products that imagine the future needs of our customers,” said James Ludwig, Director of Design for Steelcase Inc. “Part of being students of the workplace is experimenting with product concepts and exploring with users how those concepts can lead to products that will help them work more effectively now and in the future.”
