You’ve Got Mail

Proof that design tributes can come from the most unexpected of places, the U.S. Postal Service is issuing a commemorative stamp collection to recognize iconic furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames; the Smithsonian National Postal Museum’s Alphabetilately, an exhibit celebrating typography of stamp design; and stylish mailboxes from Heartlands Outdoor Living of New Zealand.

Did You Hear? Word-of-mouth buzz on interesting pieces from New York’s MoMA in the recent exhibit Design and the Elastic Mind, which explores the interplay of science and technology with art and design:

“Sketch Furniture” by Front Design, a video demonstration of 3-D motion capture technology that records a virtual sketch and translates it into a file for prototyping.  

“I Want You To Want Me” by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar, an interactive installation of personals pulled from online profiles of men and women seeking romance.

“Accessories for Lonely Men” by Noam Toran, eight electronic devices like a hair alarm clock and a “sheet thief” to simulate the sometimes annoying behaviors of a companion.
